Preppy Belle Isle

Transcend back in time to the grandeur of Detroit on the island of pleasure. As you cross the elegant MacArthur Bridge in your motorcar across the ever flowing Detroit River, you witness the belle of the preppy ball, Belle Isle. With Canada on one side and the United States on the other, this pleasure island has seduced many preppies for over a century.

James Scott Memorial Fountain

This 1925 grand and somewhat ostentatious marble fountain pierces the edge of Belle Isle. A preppy can view the beautiful centuries old Detroit skyline. The fountain is a good start to enjoy this pleasure island and enter into a world of prepdom.

Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory

Built in 1904 by the mighty Albert Kahn and George Mason, this preppy gem is in one of the most elegant corners of Detroit. The Edwardian style conservatory rivals the great cities of today bringing the preppy in touch with the glories of the natural world. Whitcomb houses the loveliest collection of exotic plants and an enormous century old palm tree is housed in the grand central dome. Many preppies are seen here with their dates or loved ones for a romantic stroll back into a simpler era.

Belle Isle Aquarium

This stunning architectural masterpiece with unique green subway tiled interior will surely make a preppy smile in joy. Built during 1904 by the same builders of the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, the Belle Isle Aquarium has been the stomping grounds of preppy Detroit for over a century. The authority, the majesty, and mysticism of this building is worth a long trip in the station wagon. The building is like stepping into a Wes Anderson film with great attention to detail. The outside koi pond in between the aquarium and conservatory is a wonderful site to witness the splendors of preppy Detroit.

Dossin Great Lakes Museum

What maritime museum isn't preppy? The museum is filled with wonderful historical information about the maritime traditions of the Great Lakes. The preppy of Detroit enjoys these vast bodies of water for all their leisurely possibilities. The museum is situated at the southern part of the island overlooking Canada, which will surely impress your preppy date.

Detroit Boat Club Crew

Crew is a very elegant sport that the preppy thrives in. One who takes to the oar will conquer the beauty of the Great Lakes. The Detroit Boat Club Crew (DBCC) is the oldest rowing team in North America with a foundation in 1839. DBCC is as preppy as Detroit can be with many Ivy bound youths and adults participating in majestic rowing events stationed on Belle Isle. Take to the oar to learn a new sport or to maintain the preppy traditions of the past.
