The Preppy Pointes
The preppy supports strong government, strong private property rights, and the free flows of capital. The preppy not only admires our public institutions but help in their preservation. The preppy understand that good governance will improve the human condition for all. The preppy feels patriotic for doing so is for the common good. There is no shame in being supportive of where you live or what good values you uphold, honor is good. A strong work ethic, being kind to others, and a thirst for knowledge shall always produce the strongest pillars of civilized society. The preppy will behave themselves in public and in private for their family honor is what drives them towards success. Doing good, is an American value that the preppy cherishes. When you enter a preppy neighborhood you feel safe, you feel happy, you see the pride that the preppy takes in their home, in their family, and towards general society. The preppy is active in historical preservations for it educates and enchants the minds of all.
The Pointes has been a part of prepdom since its colonial foundations and has quickly expanded over the centuries as the main location from where preppy Detroit can be experienced in full glory. It is comprised of five cities: Grosse Pointe, Grosse Pointe Park, Grosse Pointe Shores, Grosse Pointe Farms, and Grosse Pointe Woods. While this may be confusing, locals refer to this general area as Grosse Pointe or the Pointes. The Pointes culture and architectural style remains homogeneous. The preppies of Grosse Pointe enjoy all the leisurely pursuits of the world, afforded by their hands in heavy industry. All in this region are somehow directly or indirectly affected by the successes of the American automotive industry and its legacy runs strong in the Pointes.
Grosse Pointe Shores
The Shores is famous for its spectacular Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. The tower pierces out of the lake reaching towards the heavens. It’s a majestic sight to witness the preppy enjoying their maritime fun on Lake St. Clair during the warmer months. Another famous landmark of the Shores is the Edsel and Eleanor Ford House. This well-preserved mansion built by the mighty Albert Kahn, shows off the opulent splendors of the Ford family. This gem really represents all of the Pointes with its strong foundations in family and stoic beauty projected to the rest of society.
Grosse Pointe
The City has a downtown area of main storefronts called the Village, which is the main shopping area for the Pointes. Many preppies mix and mingle at the many restaurants, bars, and shops in the Village. There are also many beautiful historic homes in the City. The town may be more famous nationally being the location of Grosse Pointe Blank (1997).
Grosse Pointe Farms
The Farms is a very sought-after area for its many grand historical homes and landmarks like Saint Paul on the Lake. Beautiful buildings like Grosse Pointe South HS and Grosse Pointe Public Library across from Brooks. The society of the Pointes congregates at the Farms as it is for many, a preppy oasis. The Grosse Pointe War Memorial has many cherished events like being home to Grosse Pointe Chamber Music. The Grosse Pointe Memorial Church is another architectural beauty to admire even if you are not religious. The Country Club of Detroit is the best place in the Pointes to keep good company. If you’re not part of the club, are you even a part of society?
Grosse Pointe Park
The Park is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Metropolitan-Detroit. Many of the houses are some of the oldest in the Pointes. Deep in tradition, the Park has a heavy culture of old money values and stately homes for all to admire.
Grosse Pointe Woods
The Woods is known for smaller more approachable homes that still have Grosse Pointe charm.
