Preppy Detroit
While
Detroit was founded by the French in 1701, the name has been anglicized and the
traditions changed to conform to British colonial tradition. Detroit like many
other regions of the United States, has established a long history of being
preppy. The many buildings are built in English style and reflect a tradition
that hard work will produce great wealth. This wealth, however minor or major,
has helped to enchant the American Dream. The preppy of Detroit understands
this dream and courts for its favor. Preppy Detroit may seem like a dream to
many, but for some this dream is a beautiful reality filled with rosy cheeks.
Indian Village
This rustic preppy Detroit housing district was founded in 1894 and built in traditional European styles like Tudor Revival and Georgian Colonial. Again, the preppy can admire the many wonderful homes built by Albert Kahn amongst others in Indian Village.
Palmer Woods
This posh district is still home to many of preppy Detroit. Founded during the early 20th-century during the automotive boom years, Palmer Woods became a land of preppy fantasy. This district is known to house Detroit royalty in divine Tudor Revival estates. Conveniently located next to the regal Detroit Golf Club (1899), many preppies take up sport behind these private gates before returning to their Palmer estate. Roaring down the boulevard from the club never felt so effortless.
Downtown
The Detroit Athletic Club (DAC) is where generations of preppy Detroit have come to get fit while staying social. This is the place where Detroit high society like to call home. The preppy may enjoy a quick G&T before talking to one of mummy’s friends about the merger. The preppy doesn’t speak about money unless a hot deal causes them to mumble their mantra: Money Making Michigan. Unfortunately, those trips to the club don’t pay for themselves.
The Colony Club is still for many the place for preppy Detroit to come out to society. It is a very elegant place to make a social splash. Just think of all the scandalous stories that the walls would say if they could speak.
Detroit Institute of Art
Museums?! Art?! The preppy is left dead in its tracks from the excitement. The preppy enjoys expanding their mind to enjoy the many beauties that the world has to offer. The Detroit Institute of Art is a marvelous example of Detroit’s past grandeur that has lasted generations. The collection is finer than duddy’s Miró hanging above the fireplace. The preppy gets lost in the historical tradition within these splendid exhibits.
